So I think it’s safe to say that 2014 was and still continues to be the year of PODCASTS, at least for me it is! For those of you who aren’t familiar with podcasts they’re basically internet radio where you can choose from a variety of topics to listen to. For example, if you’re a fan of technology you can search technology podcasts in the iTunes search bar (or other podcast players like Stictcher, Pocket Casts, etc) and you’ll find a ton of podcasts out there that talk all about technology! It’s pretty awesome. You can either download these episodes, most podcasts are weekly episodes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour long on average but every podcast varies, or stream them and basically listen to them anytime you want from any device!
I have over 20 podcasts that I listen to some of my favorites, not pet related, being Serial, Freakonomics, Podcast Answerman and Preggie Pals! Of the 20 podcasts that I’m subscribed to I only listen to a handful religiously but when I’m in the mood for something specific I have a variety of topics to choose from. I usually listen to podcast episodes when I’m commuting to work, when I’m multi-tasking but more often than not when I’m walking or caring for clients pets. It keeps me entertained while walking for long periods of time and I’m learning something at the same time so it’s a win/win.
One of my go-to topics that I listen to on a weekly basis is of course my pet related podcasts and I have 3 favorites that I’ll be sharing with you guys today!
The Great Dog Adventure
This is by far my most favorite podcast. It’s hosted by Fernando Camacho who is a dog trainer out of New Jersey. His podcast focuses mainly on the dog training aspect being that he’s an expert in the field so he shares his insights on training, teaches his listeners tips and and tricks and all sorts of information is shared on a weekly basis. I personally enjoy his podcast because he isn’t your traditional dog trainer whose still stuck on the “alpha male, pack leader, dominant” method of training but uses positive reinforcement techniques instead which is more my speed. I’ve learned a great deal from listening to his podcast as I don’t specialize in training in the slightest but do have to frequently train clients’ dogs!
Quick and Dirty Tips – The Dog Trainer
My next favorite podcast is Quick and Dirty Tips – The Dog Trainer hosted by Jolanta Benal. These podcast episodes are much shorter than the average, most are between 30 minutes and a hour long, but for these episodes they’re about 10-15 minutes – bite sized! This podcast also features pet training in shorter episodes but also incorporates an array of other topics as well.
Joyful Telepathy Podcast
Last but not least the Joyful Telepathy Podcast! At first listen or when you first read the name of this podcast it doesn’t sound at all like something that would be related to animals but you would be wrong! This is podcast is hosted by Kate Sitka and she happens to be a Spirit Medium and Animal communicator. Prior to stumbling upon this podcast I’d never known that animal communicators existed! I’d heard and seen tv shows on spirit mediums but honestly was too confused by it to think anything of it but after binging (literally episode after episode while walking dogs) through her podcast and really getting to know what animal communication and spirit medium was I’ve completely changed my opinion on it all, It really is very interesting!
There are so, so, sooo many different types of podcasts to choose from it’s absolutely unbelievable and I can’t picture not listening to a podcast while commuting or walking. I basically don’t listen to the radio or music (unless I’m on a road trip for hours on end) but even then I’d rather be learning something interesting, which I have in different genres, and that honestly wouldn’t have been possible if I hadn’t found podcasts! The concept of podcasting is relatively new, it’s only been out for a number of years but it’s gained popularity within the last few years. I think most people, creators, are starting to catch on that this podcast thing is actually a thing (kinda like YouTube) and so now everyone is jumping on the band wagon, myself included!
I’ve been working on my very own podcast because blogging can be so tedious at times! I’ll be launching Thee Inside Poop Podcast here soon which will feature short 30 minute episodes on all things pet related! So if you’re interested in pet care, health, nutrition and everything in between then you’ll be able to listen in on my thoughts, tips and tricks and possibly even learn a few things here and there.
Do you have any favorite podcasts? If so, I want to hear about them! I’m always looking for new and exciting podcasts to listen to so if you have any worth mentioning leave them in the comments below 🙂
