DOG PARK RULE #1 (and the only one that matters!)
1. NO UNNEUTERED DOGS ALLOWED
I’m sure a lot of people that frequent dog parks don’t know that bringing in unneutered dogs is NOT ALLOWED.
Bet ya didn’t know that, did you?
Yea, it’s usually one of the first few rules on the bulletin board that’s located just before or within the entrance of the park; other park rules on this bulletin board include keeping your dog on leash, having your dog vaccinated, not bringing puppies less than 4 months old and that kinda thing, yet so many people bring their unneutered dogs anyway!
I don’t know if it’s because they’re genuinely unaware of this minor detail or simply because they just don’t care but whatever the case may be it’s oh so wrong on so many levels! Have you noticed that 99.9% of the fights that occur at dog parks usually involve an unneutered male??? Yea! For some odd reason they just don’t mesh well with other dogs. Something about them wanting to dominate everything in sight may have something to do with it…
I’ve witnessed within the last few weeks some of the dogs I walk on a daily basis flip out when in the presence of an unneutered dog! And the thing that’s so upsetting about is if my dog goes after this other dog, the unneutered male, then it’s MY fault! My fault because my dog is clearly not socialized and is a little trouble maker when in reality it’s the OTHER dog! It’s extremely frustrating to not be able to visit dog parks with certain dogs I walk because some people chose not to get their dogs neutered.
So, for the rest of us who really enjoy taking our dogs to the park, who have socialized and well behaved dogs, and who respect all the rules PLEASE don’t bring your unneutered dog to the park. Save yourself the aggravation of having to control your dog from attacking someone else’s and just leave them at home or take them for a walk… far, far away from the dog park!
